While we were snowed in all weekend I did some organizing in my closet. Well, mainly I was just hiding in the closet but I figured while I was in there I might as well organize some stuff. I made a whole shelf for my fleece tops and pants. And I realized I have a LOT of fleece. I should be ashamed at the sad state of my wardrobe choices but I’m not. I love fleece.

I’m part of the Facebook groups for my kids charter schools and we were discussing the potential for a snow day on Monday. A friend who is also a teacher at the school texted me right after I posted that I just wanted to not have to wear real pants on Monday. This was our text exchange. I love my friends. They really get me.

We finally went back to normal schedule yesterday. It’s so hard getting back into the routine mid-week. Tyler had basketball and then Mason had basketball right after. Those kids were crazy. You’d have thought they were cooped up for 3 weeks instead of just a few days! The poor coaches. Ha!

The little kids had pajama day on their last day of school before Christmas vacation started. We didn’t have any Christmas pajamas this year so I improvised. I found some clearance $2.99 shirts at Children’s Place and snagged a pair of candy cane leggings for Zoey for $1.99 and fleece pants for Mason for $3.29. Add a santa hat and some reindeer antlers and viola.

Matt scored some tickets to the Hornets vs. Bulls game and the kids were stoked. They were ground level seats and he got 4 of them. Zoey had a birthday party to attend so Matt took Tyler, Maia, and Mason out for dinner and then to the game. They had so much fun. Having big kids rocks!

We baked up a storm this week. We made the easiest peanut butter fudge in the world, chocolate chip cookies, salted caramel cookies, and Butterscotch Christmas Crack. Basically it was diabetes on a tray. What did I get for Christmas this year? Diabetes. Clearly.

Tyler had Ugly Christmas Sweater day at school on Friday and all the varsity athletes participated. He did not own an ugly sweater so I had to scramble to find one for him. And I found the perfect one. It’s ugly. Imagine if Vanilla Ice and the 1980’s had a baby…that’s this sweater. He got a ton of compliments on it. Don’t mind the dazed and confused look on his face, it was before 6am when I took the picture. He doesn’t function that early in the morning.

We celebrated Christmas with my side of the family this past weekend. Now that Camden is a little older he’s fine with doing a small celebration with my parents on Christmas morning. It’s a lot for my parents to come down twice in one week. They were already down here for my nephew’s birthday party on Saturday so they just spent the night and we celebrated Christmas on Sunday. It was fun! Cinnamon rolls, biscuits & gravy, hot cocoa, and tons of presents.

I had to scramble to get all of our Christmas gifts wrapped this week. Tyler was out of school after last Friday, Maia’s last day was Monday, and the little kids’ last day was Wednesday. So I spent all day Monday wrapping. And I do mean ALL DAY! It takes forever but I just love seeing all those colorful packages underneath the tree. It’s so nice that the kids are old enough to not rip open packages before Christmas morning now. I can wrap them and put them under the tree and know they will still be wrapped come Christmas morning.

Basketball is in full swing these days. Our whole life is consumed with basketball for the next few months. Tyler had 2 games last week and we made it to one of them. Basketball is hard. Even though the games are at 7:30 the away games are sometimes over an hour away and on school nights we just cannot do that with the other kids. So we miss a lot of games. It is what it is. The Friday night game last week was against the same school that Tyler suffered his concussion against in football. This school is….rough. Their teams play dirty and they were actually forced to forfeit 3 football wins because of cheating this season. I don’t like this school. Tyler played well and nobody suffered a concussion so we’re calling it a success.

Mason had his second game of the season on Saturday and he did great. He played almost the entire game and this kid has some serious defensive skills. He’s not much for scoring- he makes great passes and sets amazing screens but he only takes a shot if he has to. His team has won both games by a good margin and he’s having a lot of fun with his teammates. I can already see how much skill he has acquired this season compared to where he ended last season. He ended this game with 4 points, 6 steals, and 8 rebounds!

Zoey had her first Kindergarten performance and it was the holiday program. She loved it. She sang loudly, she did all her hand signs for the sign language song, and she even danced. It was adorable. Unfortunately I was reminded of how insane Kindergarten parents can be during school performances. It was nuts. I feel the need to bring back an open letter for parents from long ago. Maybe I should print it out and send it home with the Kindergarten parents? I can’t wait to see how much fun the Spring recital is…..
