I didn’t get to spend a lot of time reading during our Thanksgiving break. The kids were off of school for 9 straight days! 2 days were spent cleaning our house, 2 days were spent shopping for food, 2 days were spent cooking, and 2 days were spent recovering from hosting both sides of the family. Ha! But I did manage to read a few good books. I’m sharing 2 of them today. 2 books by 2 of my favorite authors!

1. Ashes by Suzanne Wright– Together, Harper and Knox have overcome just about every evil thing you can think of – from Horsemen of the Apocalypse to dark magic practitioners to Lucifer’s insistent belief that he’s hilarious. They’re looking forward to some well-earned downtime – until Harper is attacked by mercenaries in the middle of her tattoo shop. Worse still, the attackers are trying to take her wings – the ones no one is meant to know she even has. It’s a near miss and once a furious Knox has managed to pull his demon back into line there’s only one thing clear – someone knows Harper’s secrets and is systematically setting out to destroy her. It seems likely that someone is the third Horseman – but how do they know so much about Harper? It seems the impossible might be true – they have an enemy hiding at the very heart of the lair. To survive Harper will need to embrace power that’s darker than she’s ever experienced and even Knox can’t protect her from everything – though God knows nothing’s going to stop him trying. The stakes have never been higher, for if Harper’s taken by this new threat, Knox won’t be able to stop his demon from taking a vicious pleasure in tearing the world apart.

My Rating: 5 Stars

I love this series so hard, y’all. This is book 2 in the Dark in You series and it is every bit as great as the first 2 books. I wasn’t sure about the whole demon storyline when I started the first book but MAN! It’s fantastic. This series has it all- romance, possessive alpha males, Lucifer with a twist, badass females, danger, action….it’s amazing!

2. Hardcore Twenty-Four by Janet Evanovich– Trouble comes in bunches for Stephanie Plum. First, professional grave robber and semi-professional loon, Simon Diggery, won’t let her take him in until she agrees to care for his boa constrictor, Ethel. Stephanie’s main qualification for babysitting an extremely large snake is that she owns a stun gun—whether that’s for use on the wandering serpent or the petrified neighbors remains to be seen. Events take a dark turn when headless bodies start appearing across town. At first, it’s just corpses from a funeral home and the morgue that have had the heads removed. But when a homeless man is murdered and dumped behind a church Stephanie knows that she’s the only one with a prayer of catching this killer. If all that’s not enough, Diesel’s back in town. The 6-foot-tall, blonde-haired hunk is a man who accepts no limits—that includes locked doors, closed windows and underwear. Trenton’s hottest cop, Joe Morelli isn’t pleased at this unexpected arrival nor is Ranger, the high-powered security consultant who has his own plans for Stephanie. As usual Jersey’s favorite bounty hunter is stuck in the middle with more questions than answers. What’s the deal with Grandma Mazur’s latest online paramour? Who is behind the startling epidemic of mutilated corpses? And is the enigmatic Diesel’s sudden appearance a coincidence or the cause of recent deadly events?

My Rating: 5 Stars

I really do love this series. This is, obviously, book 24 in the Stephanie Plum series. I keep waiting for the stories to get old but so far I have loved every one of them. I will admit that the love triangle angle is getting a bit redundant but you can’t beat the comedy and antics of the characters. If you haven’t started this series yet, start with book 1 and just keep reading. You won’t be sorry.
