Turning A Nursery Into A Big Girl Bedroom On A Budget

After we transitioned Zoey into a shared bedroom with Mase, I needed to redo her old nursery for Maia. Thankfully Maia loved the existing colors in the room so I didn’t have to paint the walls. After painting 9 rooms in a month I was ever so grateful for a break! In fact, Maia’s room was the easiest redo because she wanted to keep most of the already in place decor. I love her. She’s now my favorite child.

If you missed the original nursery tour you can see it HERE.

I started her redo with a bed. Zoey was still in a crib when she slept in this room so the first purchase for Maia was a twin bed. She kept the existing heart duvet cover and the rug. I moved her old nightstand from her picket fence bedroom into her new room because it matched perfectly. The curtains also stayed. We got rid of the armoire and the dollhouse bookcase. I replaced the bookcase with a new desk and 2 wall shelves. She wanted somewhere to display her My Little Pony collection. I also added the rail and 4 pink buckets for her art supplies.

She wanted to keep the leaf over her bed and I added the name banner (now you all can see her full name- pronounced Mah-LIE-yah, which means Freedom in Matt’s native language). I also found some great wall prints from Zulily when they had a huge sale.

I made the tissue paper pom pom poofs to hang from the ceiling. They are so easy to make and I did a full tutorial on them last week.

I love her new big girl room! It fits her personality perfectly and she is so happy to have some privacy.
