Before/After: Budget Dining Room Makeover

DRmain1

I’ve been wanting to do a complete overhaul of the dining room for ages but I wasn’t sure what I wanted so I kept putting it off and putting it off. When I started this house redo I planned to do the family room, breakfast nook, and kitchen only. But once I got started I just couldn’t stop. It felt so good to clean out and update that I kept going.

If you don’t remember from my last house tour, this is what the dining room looked like before.

There are so many things wrong in that picture I don’t even know where to start. If you missed the original dining room tour, you can find it HERE. Be warned, it’s not pretty.

And here is what the dining room looks like today after my budget redo.

Amazing difference. The whole space feels lighter, brighter, and younger. Which is what I was going for. I got rid of the original curtains that had been here since we moved into the house and replaced them with new ones. I finally spray painted the huge gold mirror and it looks fantastic now! The ugly black chairs went to the trash and were replaced with dark brown wood chairs. I have a quirk- I’m not a fan of matchy-match dining room furniture. I like the contrast and the different woods. It gives the room some character I think. So I took the dark brown wood chairs from the nook to use in the dining room. I bought new chairs for the breakfast nook. I took down the black shelves and stored all the bar glasses in the buffet. They were a nightmare to dust up on those shelves. I’m in love with this space now. It’s exactly what I wanted when I first decided to bring red accents into the room. The whole redo cost me less than $100- now that’s maximum impact on a minimum budget!
