A Budget Friendly Family Room Redo

On Monday I showed you the before/after reveal of the family room redo. Today I wanted to share the details and how I did it all on a very small budget. I hear from my friends and family all the time how they desperately want to redo a room in their homes but they just don’t have the budget for it. Y’all, it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to completely revamp a space! It just takes some creativity and some work….spray paint doesn’t hurt either.

I knew I wanted a completely different color scheme than what was in the family room previously but it wasn’t until I found the orange and white polka dot rug at IKEA that I knew the direction I wanted to take the decor. It all came together once I found the rug. If you’re anything like me, you want the deets. I always see people’s room redos and wonder if I could even afford to do that. So let me break it down for you!

I wish you could have seen my face when I walked into the Target dollar spot one afternoon and saw those orange and turquoise magazine holders for $1 each. I might have even giggled like a crazy person. The only piece of furniture I bought for this room was the cube bookcase, everything else was reused from around the house. I also reused as many of the accessories as I could spray paint to keep the cost down. As you can see, IKEA was my main source for new decor but I love the pieces I found at Hobby Lobby for 50-70% off.

Total Cost for my family room redo = around $475 give or take a few dollars.

Less than $500 to completely refresh an entire room from top to bottom! Of course it would have been more if I’d had to replace furniture but since I had an original budget of $800 for the family room, breakfast nook, and kitchen combined I had to be thrifty.
