Show Us Your House: Master Bedroom

Today, continuing on our house tour, I am going to give you a tour of our Master Bedroom. Now the Master Bedroom is a work in progress. Who am I kidding, most of my house is a work in progress. I showed you how it looked back in 2009 and there were a few changes in 2010. There has been a whole lotta changes in 2012. And there are many more to come this year.

I told you. Lots of changes! We got rid of that huge monstrosity of a headboard that was straight out of the 1980’s. The room gained so much space once that was gone. I opted not to replace it right now. I like the bed right up against the windows so I don’t feel the need to buy a headboard right now. I still have the chest of drawers from that set but rest assured, it’s going bye-bye soon too. I plan to buy the 8 drawer dresser from IKEA that matches those gorgeous nightstands up there in the picture. I’m also going to buy the matching wardrobe to go along the empty wall back there. Won’t that look amazing? I’m glad you agree.

See, there’s the ugly chest of drawers that’s going. The tv won’t look quite so monstrous on top of the new dresser. Yes, I realize it looks horrible. No, it’s not negotiable. Sigh. I love the braided rug. I found it at Wal*Mart for $20 and the colors are a perfect match. Talk about luck, the one I was about to purchase was 5x that price! I found the large black vase and cream stick thingy’s (I’m confident that’s what they are really called) at IKEA. The canvas prints hanging on either side of the bed also came from IKEA. They came in a set of 3 so I used the third one in the foyer.

I found the gorgeous bedding at Kohl’s. I searched for months to find exactly what I was looking for and found it by chance one day when I went looking for a dress to wear to a wedding. It was on sale and I happened to have a 30% off coupon that day. It was kismet. As I mentioned, the black nightstands came from IKEA as did the fabulous lantern style lamps. They were only $10 each, even Matt couldn’t complain about that. The window treatments are going as soon as I find ones that I am in love with, so far I haven’t seen any that match but aren’t frilly. These were a perfect match to our old bedding but they just don’t go in here now.

This wall is directly across from our bed. The black bench is an antique that my mom passed down to me while back. I love it and it fits in with the decor of the room. It took me forever to get the wall display just how I wanted it, lots of trial and error, and touch up paint. I chose my favorite pictures from our wedding and displayed them in frames. I bought the 2 oval mirrors at IKEA for $5 each. The black and white floral prints came from IKEA also, as did all of the cream frames. The center picture is actually our wedding invitation that my sister had matted and framed with dried flowers for us as a wedding gift. I love it and I built the wall arrangement around it. I found the cream word plaques at Target for $10 each a couple of years ago. I’m debating adding another wedding picture on each side but I’m not sure yet.

Another view of the wall display. I love waking up each morning and this being the first thing that I see. The sunlight streams in the windows behind our bed and hits the mirrors just at the right angle to create a beautiful ?effect.

This is one of my favorite pieces in my whole house. It’s called an Elephant Table, for obvious reasons. My maternal grandfather brought it home piece by piece when he served in the war and then reconstructed it complete with the real ivory tusks. It has been in my family for as long as I can remember and I treasure it.

So that’s our Master Bedroom. A lot different from the last tour but not quite done yet! Maybe by the next tour it will be completely finished.

  5. I really like the black bench and photos! Good job!!

  6. I’ve been working on “restyling” our master bedroom lately. The hubs doesn’t get it, but I do think now that I’ve purchased most of the furniture off craigslist for super reasonable compared to some of the $8000 sets we looked at in furniture stores that he is kinda happy I’m going this route. Well, as happy as he can be about me changing stuff and spending money. I LOVE the elephant table, the black bench and also the wall grouping. And if I had $1000 I’d add another $300 and get the wood floor I’m drooling over put in our master. I REALLY want that wood floor.

  7. What a lovely room! Great bedding…so nice that it was on sale and you had the coupon…love it when things like that happen. Would be delighted for you to link up with us at Mop It Up Mondays: http://www.ishouldbemoppingthefloor.com/2012/06/mop-it-up-mondays-21-with-give-away.html

  8. Stopping by via Kelly’s Korner today!
Love your bedroom colors. You’ve really put together a warm and comfortable space!

  9. That elephant table is something else! How neat that it made its way to the US piece by piece. I love family heirlooms like that.

  10. Your master makes mine look like the dump!

  11. Now I want to frame my wedding invitation, yours looks so nice with the pictures around it!

  12. I love your elephant table, it’s unique. And I mean unique in a good way, not a snarky wow…that’s interesting…way. I love the bedding too. I never bothered with nice bedding for my master bedroom, but it really does pull things together. Thanks for sharing!

  13. Too funny, I am sitting in our office quietly while my husband sleeps in across the hall, and I’m wondering about how to jazz up our bedroom decor. Thinking about blogging about it…

Then I saw this post, what a nice coincidence! I like the bench and wall display, love the candlesticks, and the elephant table is way cool!
